Man faces charges after holding gun to infant in Texas hospital ER

A 32-year old man faces charges after allegedly holding an infant girl at gunpoint upon entering Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie (Texas), according to NBC 5 news.

Police investigators said they arrested 32-year-old Lorenzo Zarate around 7:40 p.m. Saturday after an hour-long stand off. The situation ended without injury.

According to witness testimony, Mr. Zarate told the two dozen people inside the emergency room to leave immediately and handed the baby over to hospital personnel.

Police officers charged Mr. Zarate with one count of making a terroristic threat, one account of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of trying to take a gun from an officer, according to the report. Officials said Mr. Zarate’s motives are still unclear.

Officers also reportedly took custody of a second child found in Mr. Zarate’s vehicle in the parking lot. Both children were physically unharmed and remain in police custody, according to the report.

After briefly being put on lockdown, the hospital is open and operating normally.
