Man accused of 2014 Boston Children’s DDoS hack pleads not guilty

The “hacktavist” accused of planning and carrying out a distributed denial of service attack against Boston Children’s Hospital in 2014 pleaded not guilty to the attack, according to ABC News.

Martin Gottesfeld pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and intentionally causing damage to protected computers during his arraignment Oct. 26.

According to the article, Mr. Gottesfeld fell during the proceedings. It is unclear whether he tripped or fainted. The judge reportedly called for a nurse and cleared the courtroom. A wheel chair was brought in for him.

Upon entering the courtroom, Mr. Gottesfeld reportedly told his wife he had lost close to 25 pounds while in jail.

Mr. Gottesfeld has engaged in an ongoing hunger strike while in prison. As of Oct. 26, he had fasted for 23 days.

Mr. Gottesfeld was arrested in February. He claims he staged the attack to draw attention to the hospital staff’s unjust treatment of a 15 year-old girl. Prosecutors claimed the attack resulted in more than $300,000 worth of damage.
