“Thanks to the law, seniors have new benefits such as free preventative care as well as discounts on brand-name medications in the ‘doughnut hole’ coverage gap that have already save more than 5 million people with Medicare about $600 each,” Sec. Sebelius writes.
She adds that “Medicare is stronger than ever,” combating a claim from conservatives that the federal healthcare law cuts benefits for senior citizens.
The U.S. House plans to vote again to repeal the healthcare law on Wednesday, though it is unlikely the Democratic-controlled Senate will take up the legislation.
