The hospital expects to receive approximately $2 million more per year in reimbursements for Medicare patients, which make up 44 percent of the 99-bed hospital’s business. Auburn Memorial plans to use the money for new equipment and other improvements, according to the report.

Auburn Memorial’s application to CMS for the special designation had to include proof that the hospital is either at least 30 miles away or a 45-minute drive from the nearest hospital.
