Donald Thomas faces claims of using his access to the hospital’s payroll system to fabricate vacation and severance pay issued to terminated Grady employees. The U.S. Attorney’s Office alleges Mr. Thomas altered payroll records so those payments were deposited directly into accounts he oversaw.
Mr. Thomas was laid off from Grady in 2011.
Mr. Thomas faces charges of embezzlement, wire fraud and bank fraud. He was released on bond Tuesday. He faces up to 30 years in prison and a potential fine of $1 million.
