Alexander Sparks, 22, snuck a knife into the hospital Friday night and stole a surgical mask and gloves from a supply closet before he went to his mother’s hospital room and stabbed her in her bed. Mr. Sparks left the room and placed the knife on a nurse’s desk on his way to the elevators, where he was confronted by security. Nurses found his mother, Liese Sparks, dead when they were alerted to her heart monitor beeping.
The only motive police have so far is that Mr. Sparks told them his mother was a bad influence on him. He has been charged with premeditated murder and is being held in Leon County Jail.
