If the legislation was enacted, part or all of the medical bills portion of a settlement could go directly to the hospital, instead of to the patient to then be paid to the hospital, according to the report.
Under Florida law, individual counties can decide independently whether to allow hospital liens. Palm Beach hospitals are encouraging the county commissioner to enact the legislation, according to the report.
