This is an about-face from the stance Sister Keehan took in February when she became the first high-profile Catholic to support President Obama’s announcement that the government would allow religious employers to turn over responsibility for covering workers’ birth control to insurance companies, according to the report.
Sister Keehan now argues that Catholic hospitals should be entirely exempt from the birth control requirement.
The administration is seeking a compromise on the issue that guarantees contraception for employees of religious organizations, while respecting religious beliefs.
