The company, which has a U.S. office, is officially opposed to the death penalty. Lundbeck is the only company that still manufactures pentobarbital for purchase in the United States, according to the report. While Lundbeck is against its use as part of a death penalty cocktail, it wants to continue providing the product to patients who need it.

Physicians have written to the company urging it not to withdraw pentobarbital. In turn, Lundbeck has sent letters to prisons in 11 states demanding they stop using the drug in lethal injection.
