Nearly half of children display significant distress at the point of inhaled induction, which can lead to more pain during recovery, longer hospital stays and more negative behavior changes after surgery.
The study found that playing video clips during the inhaled induction in ambulatory surgery is an effective method of reducing anxiety and achieving a smooth transition to the anesthetized state. Children were asked what they liked viewing at home, and similar clips were found online.
