Akron Children's Goes to Court to Ensure Chemo for Amish Girl

Akron (Ohio) Children's Hospital is taking legal action to continue chemotherapy treatments for an Amish girl with leukemia, according to an Akron Beacon Journal report.

The hospital is appealing a court ruling that denied the hospital's request to allow an attorney, also a nurse, to make medical decisions for the 10-year-old, according to the report.

The girl's parents had stopped chemotherapy because of the side effects and now want to treat their daughter with herbs and vitamins, even though hospital officials say the girl will not survive without chemotherapy, according to the report.
