New York research institute to build lab

Utica, N.Y.-based Masonic Medical Research Institute is proposing to build a 32,000-square-foot laboratory in East Utica, the Utica Observer-Dispatch reported Jan. 11.

The lab, to be built on nearly 1.7 acres, would be an expansion of its existing building in the city. The sale of the land is expected to go through in March and is contingent on the institute raising the funds needed.

The new building will allow them to expand research and accelerate “commercial development endeavors” of its findings, officials told the news outlet.
