ProMedica: ProMedica Innovations

Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica Innovations supports more than 56,000 employees to pursue novel ideas. To date, the innovation program has created 70-plus new jobs regionally, attracted $50 million in venture capital, created four companies, provided ongoing resources to more than eight companies, issued seven patents and applied for another 23 patents.

Since growing from 17,000 employees, ProMedica Innovations has spearheaded various initiatives with direction from senior leadership. In one example, the innovation team identified artificial intelligence-based companies to help reduce medical spending with the intent of implementing those solutions in the near future.

The innovation program is also focused on positively influencing rural areas. ProMedica Innovation’s partners program has awarded three companies in rural areas with funds to create sustainable economic development.

ProMedica also created a venture capital arm that oversees and administers the investment portfolio, which includes startup companies. Through this program, the venture team has formed strategic partnerships with other tech and life science venture capital firms.
