Washington State is poised to get a new union for physicians once the National Labor Relations Board certifies election results.
The NLRB is expected to certify the results Thursday, which would create a new union for physicians working at Auburn Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.
At the vote count conducted Oct. 13 at the NLRB Region 19 offices in Seattle, a strong majority of the ballots cast by AMC doctors were in favor of the union, according to a news release. The new union will include hospitalists, pediatricians, surgeons and OB/GYNs.
This is believed to be the first time a group of private sector physicians in Washington State have unionized.
After the election results are certified Thursday, AMC physicians will prepare for their first negotiations with their employer, MultiCare Health System.
