The jobs — 18 community health workers and six home visitors — will be funded through a $1.4 million grant from the Ohio Department of Medicaid.
In addition, the nonprofit Center for Closing the Health Gap will receive $732,000 in Medicaid funding to recruit and train 14 wellness coaches to help Cincinnati communities build a culture of health, collaborate with business owners and organizations to help educate the community on infant mortality, and teach residents to advocate for resources needed for a healthy community. Center for Closing the Health Gap is aimed at raising awareness about and eliminating racial and health disparities across Greater Cincinnati.
The funding was part of efforts by Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) to combat infant mortality, according to the report. Gov. Kasich budgeted $26.8 million over two years to support community proposals to enhance care for women and infants at risk.
