Des Peres Hospital workers vote to cut ties with union

On Tuesday, the National Labor Relations Board said nurses at St. Louis-based Des Peres Hospital have voted to no longer be represented by the National Nurses United union, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.

The union represents about 160 DPH nurses. The vote to end union representation, held last Thursday, was 67 to 52, the NLRB said, according to the report.

Amy Paul, a nurse who has worked at DPH for a decade, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the union was difficult to reach and made a lot of empty promises. “They only ever showed up when there was threat of a vote to get rid of them,” she said.

Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, which owns the hospital, and union officials did not immediately respond to a request from the publication for comment.

In the report, Pete Perez, a local NLRB official, said the labor board will send out a “certification of results of election” early next week, letting nurses know they are no longer represented by National Nurses United, as long as no objections are filed by the end of day Friday.

According to the report, National Nurses United has represented the DPH nurses since 2012.
