UPMC Altoona, SEIU to Reopen Negotiations

A meeting between UPMC Altoona (Pa.) and SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania has been scheduled for Jan. 31 after the union declared plans for a one-day strike on Feb. 11.

“The hospital is encouraged and sees this as a favorable step,” Dave Cuzzolina, a UPMC Altoona spokesman, said in a written statement about the meeting plans.

The two groups have not been able to reach a contract agreement. The union has found fault with the contract’s health insurance, retirement benefits and staffing guidelines.
