U-M Health workers cancel strike: 4 notes

A memorandum of understanding has been reached for healthcare workers at Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine, canceling a strike planned for Nov. 12.

Four notes:

1. UM Health, the clinical operation of Michigan Medicine, and United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals have created a framework to reach a tentative agreement over the next two weeks, according to a joint statement shared with Becker’s.

2. UMMAP represents about 4,500 healthcare workers at UM Health, including medical assistants, radiological professionals, physical therapists and social workers, among other roles.

3. “We will continue our collaborative efforts to reach a tentative agreement that reflects how highly we value the incredible care provided by our team members represented by UMMAP,” Jovita Thomas-Williams, chief human resources officer for Michigan Medicine, said in the release.

4. The union was formed Feb. 24.
