The change will affect roughly 230 nurses at Summa’s Akron City, Barberton, St. Thomas and Wadsworth-Rittman hospitals. While ending premium pay does not affect the nurses’ base pay or the hours they work, it will reclassify them as part-time employees, which will affect their benefits next year, according to the report.
Summa chose to make the payment adjustment after looking at compensation models at similar organizations in the area, according to the report.
