Technical workers at Rochester (N.Y.) General Hospital voted 145-54 to join the Rochester Union of Nurses and Allied Professionals, according to an April 6 union Facebook post.
The bargaining unit includes nearly 300 workers — such as respiratory therapists, radiology technologists, surgical technologists, medical lab technicians, licensed practical nurses and physical and occupational therapy assistants — according to NBC affiliate WHEC.
“We are ready to use our new collective power to advocate for safer patient care, improved retention and higher standards in our hospital and in the Rochester community,” the union said in the post.
Rochester General said it respects employees’ rights and the outcome of the election.
“Our priority remains unchanged: supporting our team members and ensuring safe, high-quality care for the patients and communities we serve,” the hospital said in a statement shared with Becker’s. “We will engage constructively and in good faith as the process moves forward.”Rochester General, part of Rochester Regional Health, is a 528-bed tertiary care hospital. Its medical staff includes more than 1,000 primary care physicians and specialists, according to the hospital’s website.
