Providence Saint John’s nurses approve 3-year labor deal

Registered nurses at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif., have approved a new three-year labor contract, according to a Jan. 24 news release from the California Nurses Association.

The agreement covers 640 nurses and includes the following, per the CNA:

  • Expanded tuition reimbursement and paid education time, including eligibility for per diem nurses
  • Language to improve staffing and break relief in specific departments
  • Commitments to equity and a workplace free of discrimination
  • Increased pay differentials for evenings, weekends, and preceptor duties; 401(k) match; and no rollbacks to existing benefits

“We now have a contract that will make it easier to recruit and retain experienced nurses. This is essential to patient safety,” Liz Wade, RN, said in the release. “Expanded education for nurses will ensure that we stay current with new developments.”

Providence Saint John’s, part of Renton, Wash.-based Providence, shared the following statement with Becker’s: “Providence Saint John’s Health Center is pleased to confirm the ratification of a new contract with the California Nurses Association and extends gratitude to both bargaining teams for their meaningful collaboration, reflecting our shared commitment to delivering high quality, compassionate care.”
