Though unions are a shrinking portion of the American workforce, women and minority women in particular, are finding a voice in unionized labor, according to a recent report in The Wall Street Journal.

The healthcare industry added 40,500 jobs last month, contributing to the nation's 173,000 new jobs in August, according to the most recent jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Registered nurses at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, Calif., have called off their strike that was scheduled to begin Sept. 3, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Signal report.
