Primary care providers at Cleveland-based MetroHealth are taking steps to unionize with AFSCME Ohio Council 8, according to cleveland.com.
Organizers said April 14 that the proposed bargaining unit would include MetroHealth physicians, physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses.
“We are coming together to form our Union because when primary care providers have the time, support and voice in our jobs, our patients get better care,” Alyssa Osysko, APRN, said in a statement shared with Becker’s. “By coming together as physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, we are fighting for a stronger future for primary care here at MetroHealth and for better care for the community we serve.”
The effort appears to be in its early stages, with organizers launching a public campaign, circulating a petition and planning a rally to build support. Organizers have not filed for a formal union election with the Ohio State Employment Relations Board.
MetroHealth shared the following statement: “MetroHealth is grateful to our providers for their commitment to our patients and our mission. Providers have meaningful opportunities to engage in decisions that support patient care, and we will continue to welcome their feedback on all aspects of their experience at MetroHealth.”
