Kaiser Pharmacists Postpone Strike, Continue Negotiations

Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente’s more than 1,000 pharmacists did not strike as planned Monday morning and have postponed a possible strike until June 2, according to a KTLA report.

“Kaiser Permanente is pleased to announce that the Guild for Professional Pharmacists has cancelled a work stoppage,” a Kaiser statement reads. “We remain in contract negotiations with the Guild and hope to reach an agreement.”

The strike would have affected the pharmacists who work in Kaiser’s clinics, according to the report. The two sides are at odds over three main issues: a pension plan, healthcare benefits for part-time employees and the time the pharmacists can spend refilling prescriptions and working with patients, according to KTLA.

“All Kaiser Permanente members can continue having their prescription needs met at their local Kaiser Permanente pharmacy,” according to the Kaiser statement. If the pharmacists do strike June 2, those members could fill their prescriptions at other retail pharmacies in the area, KTLA reported.
