The union, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, is requesting a wage of at least $15 an hour, which would amount to a 40 percent increase for some of its 2,000 members, according to the report. Union members voted to authorize the strike last week.
Johns Hopkins proposed raises of 1 percent for the first two years of the contract, union officials told The Baltimore Sun.
“We are negotiating in good faith, working to reach a settlement that’s fair to everyone and reflects financial responsibility on the part of the hospital,” a hospital spokeswoman said in the report.
