How overtime affects employee and patient satisfaction

A recent study has revealed that nurses who work more than 12 hours in a shift and 40 hours a week are more prone to increased turnover and job dissatisfaction, according to an API Healthcare blog post.

The Health Affairs study also revealed that nurses who work shifts longer than 12 hours are 1.45 times more likely to leave their position within in a year.

However, not only employee satisfaction was affected.

The blog post also notes that patients reported lower satisfaction levels when high proportions of nurses worked shifts longer than thirteen hours.
