In October 2012, the hospital implemented a mandatory flu vaccine policy for its employees, with two exceptions: medical conditions and religious beliefs.
Karen Good, the former hospital employee and “practicing Christian,” was terminated in 2013 for not receiving a flu shot. According to the report, the hospital granted an exemption to Ms. Good from the policy in 2012 for her religious beliefs, but was denied an exemption in 2013 and was then terminated.
Ms. Good is seeking back pay and other damages, according to the report.
In an emailed statement to the Coshocton Tribune, a hospital spokeswoman said, “The policy has a provision to allow for religious exemptions. We are reviewing the matter with our legal counsel and will respond through the appropriate legal channels.”
