Registered nurses at HCA HealthONE Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo., voted July 1-2 to unionize with National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United, according to a July 3 union news release.
The election followed a 2024 union vote that the National Labor Relations Board set aside after determining HCA Healthcare unlawfully interfered with the election process, prompting the board to order a second election. HCA has appealed that decision, and the appeal remains pending.
In a statement shared with Becker’s, HCA HealthONE Swedish said it “prevailed in the first election” and remains disappointed that a majority of nurses who voted in the second election chose union representation. The health system said that because the NLRB’s decision ordering a second election remains under appeal, “there is not a confirmed vote decision at this time.”
The union said nearly 800 registered nurses are eligible for representation and that it plans to begin negotiating a first contract once the election is certified.
