The cuts are partially driven by sequestration, which will cut Medicare reimbursements at hospitals by 2 percent. This will result in a loss of more than $1 million for McLaren Northern Michigan by the end of September, according to the report.

Specific positions affected by the layoffs were not identified in the report. McLaren Northern Michigan reported employing more than 1,700 people prior to the recent layoff announcement.
