Members of the International Union of Operating Engineers have reached a tentative labor contract with Kaiser Permanente hospitals.
The tentative agreement covers IUOE Local 501, Local 99 and Local 1, which represent about 600 maintenance workers at Kaiser facilities across Southern California, the Mid-Atlantic and Colorado, according to a March 11 union news release shared with Becker’s.
According to the union, the deal includes wage increases of 21.5% over four years.
“We are very pleased to have come to an agreement with Kaiser,” Michael Ulloa, a business agent for IUOE Local 501, said in the release. “We can now focus together on delivering the critical, high-quality maintenance that makes Kaiser hospitals run.”
If ratified by union members, the agreement would expire March 31, 2030. It would cover workers including operating engineers, fire systems operators, field service engineers, biomedical equipment technicians and maintenance assistants, among other classifications.
IUOE, a member of the Alliance of Healthcare Unions, had been bargaining with Kaiser since April. The tentative deal follows a strike notice issued by union members in February.
