Wellmont announced in June it had narrowed down the number of health systems it’s considering for a possible partnership from nine to six. The names of the health systems cannot be disclosed because of confidentiality agreements.  Here are six health systems that could possibly be in the running, according to the report. Note: These names have not been confirmed as Wellmont’s actual partnership candidates.

1. Mountain States Health Alliance (Johnson City, Tenn.). MSHA operates 14 hospital facilities and has $1 billion in annual revenue, according to the report.

2. Covenant Health (Knoxville, Tenn.). Covenant includes nine acute-care hospitals in east Tennessee.

3. Carilion Clinic (Roanoke, Va.). Carilion encompasses eight hospitals and hundreds of affiliated clinics.

4. Novant Health (Winston-Salem, N.C.). Novant is composed of 15 hospital facilities.

5. Sentara Healthcare (Norfolk, Va.). Sentara currently includes 12 hospitals, most of which are located in eastern Virginia.

6. Carolinas Healthcare System (Charlotte, N.C.). CHS, the largest of the possible suitors, includes 38 facilities.
