The West Virginia Health Care Authority recently approved the certificate of need for the new facility, which Valley Health submitted for approval in April 2009.
War Memorial, a public hospital owned by Morgan County, requested proposals for the hospital’s assets in July 2008. Valley Health, which has operated the hospital for the county since 1989, was the only entity to submit a bid, according to the report.
City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va., opposed the building of a replacement facility, according to the report.
Valley Health plans to begin construction on the replacement facility by summer.
