Under the partnership, UC and the county would create a non-profit entity to operate the hospital, and UC would provide physician services to the facility.
The hospital is expected to cost $63 million annually to operate; the county has agreed to secure a $100 million line of credit to guarantee the operations.
Leaders Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Catholic Healthcare West and the California Endowment support the proposal and urged the UC Regents to approve the plan.
