The Legislative Council’s review subcommittee recommended a contract between UAMS and Deloitte Consulting to evaluate a potential affiliation between UAMS and St. Vincent Health System. The two organizations announced this potential deal in August. UAMS is a public organization and St. Vincent Health System is Catholic. Both hope to pursue a deal that would preserve their identities.
Sens. Joyce Elliot (D-Ark.) and David Johnson (D-Ark.) asked to review the deal more closely after receiving phone calls from concerned individuals. The concern stems from how a partnership between a state-run hospital and a Catholic hospital would handle women’s issues, according to the report.
