The deal, which is heading into its 19th month, has undergone closer regulatory scrutiny than investors and stakeholders anticipated.
DaVita and UnitedHealth first pushed back their closing date after the deal’s price fell about $600 million from $4.9 billion. In a regulatory filing last year, DaVita said the deal was expected to close in the first quarter of 2019, which has since passed.
In a statement to Forbes, a UnitedHealth spokesperson said: “We are working diligently with regulators to complete our combination as soon as possible. We look forward to working together to deliver high-quality healthcare and a unique consumer experience while reducing costs and enabling physicians to focus on what they do best: care for their patients.”
The transaction was first announced in December 2017.
