The Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program was created by NIH in 2015. It’s goal is to begin research centered around the treatment and prevention of disease based on lifestyle, environmental and genetic differences, according to the NIH.
UMassMedicalSchool was added to the program as part of the Trans-American Consortium for the Health Care System Research Network, a nationwide medical center group. As one of the four members of the program, UMassMedicalSchool will receive $5.5 million to be used toward recruitment and infrastructure. The institution may receive up to $16 million during its first year as it continues to advance its research endeavors, according to the article.
