“My administration will also continue to focus on promoting competition in healthcare markets and limiting excessive consolidation throughout the healthcare system,” President Trump wrote in the order.
The directive tasks HHS, the Federal Trade Commission and the Departments of Treasury and Labor with providing a report to President Trump within 180 days evaluating how well current federal regulations stimulate competition in the healthcare industry. If these policies are considered lacking, the agencies are expected to identify actions to limit consolidation, lower barriers to entry and prevent “abuses of market power.”
After the initial report, agencies are expected to update the president every two years.
