St. Anthony's Medical Center inks affiliate agreement with Mercy Hospital St. Louis

St. Louis-based St. Anthony's Medical Center entered into a definitive affiliation agreement with Mercy Hospital St. Louis.

Under the agreement, Mercy Hospital will make a substantial financial commitment to St. Anthony's, though officials did not reveal the exact amount. St. Anthony's will reportedly retain its name. Officials expect to complete the affiliation in the spring, pending regulatory approval, according to STL News.

This is the second affiliation agreement between the two institutions. The organizations first collaborated 1995, creating Unity Health System. St. Anthony's broke the agreement in 2000, claiming the hospital did not benefit enough from the affiliation, according to STL News.

"A partnership between St. Anthony's and Mercy reflects our shared mission, values and cultures as Catholic healthcare providers serving the St. Louis region, and our common commitment to our patients and communities," said David Sindelar, CEO and chairman of the board of St. Anthony's Hospital, in a press release. "By joining with Mercy, St. Anthony's patients, coworkers and physicians will have access to Mercy's extensive network of resources and services, strengthening our ability to improve community health."
