Somerset Medical Center Narrows Merger Options to Robert Wood Johnson, Atlantic Health

Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, N.J., has committed to merge with another New Jersey nonprofit health system — but first it has to pick one.

Somerset's board is currently negotiating with Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Hospital in New Brunswick and Morristown-based Atlantic Health System, with a decision expected by mid-July and a closing by the end of the year, according to a report by Courier News

"In order to achieve that lower cost of care, it's going to take pooled resources, and it is going to start taking eliminating of certain redundancies," Somerset President and CEO Kenneth Bateman told the Courier News.
