The city has considered selling the hospital, which sits on city-owned land, since last summer, but it has received strong opposition from the hospital’s leaders, who pushed for a law that would either make the hospital independent or add layers of regulatory approval to impede a sale. The city countered by hiring seven lobbyists to combat the law.
Newly elected Mayor Don Sielow said he wanted to end the lawsuit between the city and the hospital by reaching common ground on the issue. Legislators have approved the bill, which will go before the governor for his signature.
