The affiliation between the two organizations would allow JRMC’s local board to retain governing powers. However, JRMC patients would have access to Sanford’s cancer care, which offers more expanded chemotherapy treatments. Once finalized, the affiliation would also allow JRMC to install and use Epic, the electronic health record system Sanford uses.
No date was given for when JRMC and Sanford would finalize an affiliation agreement. Financial details were also not given.
Sanford most recently made headlines after the 35-hospital system announced it withdrew from merger discussions with Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services.
