An affiliation between Corvallis, Ore.-based Samaritan Health Services and Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System has been approved by the system’s board of directors, according to an Oct. 22 news release shared with Becker’s.
The two parties will sign a formal affiliation agreement in the coming weeks, which will bring Samaritan under MultiCare. The affiliation is expected to be complete in mid-2026, the release said.
“Together, we will expand access, invest in the technology and services our communities need, and do so while keeping care nonprofit and locally governed,” Marty Cahill, president and CEO of Samaritan, said in the release. “We are excited and honored to become MultiCare’s first health system in Oregon and to bring the benefits of MultiCare’s expertise home to the communities we serve.”
Samaritan will maintain its current operations for now, with no changes for patients, employees or health plan members. The system will remain community based and locally governed, but will gain MultiCare’s operational strength, resources and expertise.
Samaritan is a nonprofit, regional system that comprises five community hospitals, more than 80 physician clinics and multiple health insurance plans. It has more than 5,000 employees, including 620 clinicians.
MultiCare is a locally governed, nonprofit system with 13 hospitals, more than 300 primary, urgent, pediatric and specialty care locations and more than 28,000 employees.
