Saint Francis Care, Ascension Health Care Network Explore Merger, Sign Letter of Intent

Hartford, Conn.-based Saint Francis Care and St. Louis-based Ascension Health Care Network have signed a letter of intent for a potential integration of Saint Francis into Ascension in order to build a statewide healthcare delivery system.

Despite its for-profit, taxable status, Ascension Health Care Network is an affiliate of St. Louis-based Ascension Health Alliance, the largest Catholic health system in the United States. The terms of the letter of intent, including the future status of Saint Francis Care as a Catholic hospital, are confidential.

According to the report, both organizations will conduct due diligence and work toward a definitive agreement.
