Unicoi County Memorial’s board of control voted in late November to accept Mountain State’s proposal over others, including a proposal from Wellmont Health System in Kingsport, Tenn. According to the report, many individuals in the community favored Wellmont’s proposal because it called for an expansion at Unicoi County Momorial rather than the downsizing rumored to be in Mountain States Health’s proposal.
Participants of the rally signed a petition in an effort to persuade the Tennessee Attorney General to overturn the proposed acquisition, according to the report. The attorney general must approve the sale before it can be finalized.
