Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica plans to manage Henry County Hospital in Napoleon, Ohio, under a new affiliation agreement expected to be finalized by the end of October.

The organizations said Oct. 6 that the arrangement will be structured through a management services agreement. Henry County Hospital will retain local governance while gaining access to ProMedica’s clinical resources, regional network and operational support.

The affiliation aims to support future growth, improve provider recruitment and retention and expand access to specialty care. Hospital operations, medical practices and services are expected to continue without interruption once the agreement takes effect.

Kristi Barnd, CEO of Henry County Hospital, said the deal is designed to preserve the hospital’s local identity while expanding the resources available to patients and staff.

“Our community will continue to receive the local, personalized care they expect from Henry County Hospital while benefiting from additional resources, expanded access to specialty services and the support of a trusted regional health system,” Ms. Barnd said.

ProMedica President and CEO Arturo Polizzi said the system’s goal is to support, rather than replace, the hospital’s existing care model.

“Our goal is not to change what makes this organization successful. Our goal is to support it,” Mr. Polizzi said.

ProMedica owns and operates 10 hospitals and has an affiliated interest in one additional hospital. The system employs more than 1,300 providers through ProMedica Physicians and has more than 2,300 physicians and advanced practice providers with privileges.
