Prince William Health System to Merge With Novant

Prince William Health System in Manassas, Va., has agreed to merge with Novant Health, a regional not-for-profit health system based in Winston-Salem, N.C., according to a Novant news release.

As part of the agreement, Novant has pledged more than $200 million to Prince William. The funds will be used to increase the number of private rooms on the Manassas campus, update the critical care unit and develop a cardiac catheterization lab. Additionally, Prince William plans to build a new hospital in Haymarket, Va.

Prince William considered a number of partners for the merger before deciding on Novant.

The merger should be completed by fall 2009.
