The physician would replace the critical access hospital with a smaller facility. A price has not yet been discussed, though the physician also expressed a possible future interest in another county-owned hospital in Blytheville, Ark.
SMC Regional incurred a $2.7 million loss in 2011 but has since been profitable, according to the report. The report did not indicate how the sale would comply with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which limited the growth of new physician-owned hospitals.
