Employees at Shamokin Area Community Hospital in Coal Township, Pa., voted to dissolve their membership in the Office and Professional Employees International Union, just a day after the state approved the hospital’s merger with Geisinger Medical Center, according to a Daily Item report.
OPEIU represented registered nurses and medical technicians at the hospital.
Geisinger, which does not have any unionized employees, said it would not recognize any unions at Shamokin, according the report.
