Partners to expand international footprint: 4 things to know

Boston-based Brigham and Women’s Hospital, part of Partners HealthCare, is co- developing a women’s health center in Shanghai, China, according to The Boston Globe.

Here are four things to know about the deal.

1. Partners HealthCare will be a long-term consultant for Jiahui International Hospital, a 500-bed facility under construction in Shanghai, according to the report. Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital, also part of Partners HealthCare, is co-developing Jiahui’s cancer center.

2. Under the agreement, Brigham staff will advise Jiahui on how to develop and structure women’s health programs, according to The Boston Globe. Brigham staff will also train Jiahui’s physicians and nurses in Shanghai.

3. Brigham and Jiahui both aim to expand their reach with the initiative. The deal “is part of our strategic decision to expand the footprint and the influence of … Brigham outside New England,” Steven Thompson, chief business development officer at Brigham, said in the report. Partners has done several international projects over the past 10 years in China, India, the Middle East and other markets.

Feng Ge, CEO of Jiahui, said their goal is “to redefine and redesign healthcare for women in China, offering a full range of care that tailors to their needs at different stages of life.”

4. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
