The Boston-based health system also plans to file a notice of material change with the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission regarding the merger later this week.

Under the proposed deal, which Partners and CNE announced in April 2017, CNE would be absorbed into Partners’ Brigham Health in Boston. Brigham Health is the parent company of Boston-based Brigham and Women’s Hospital and several other entities.

“This relationship will extend our existing affiliations across the Care New England system, bringing new resources to support patient care and physician training and expanding access to research through clinical trials. We’re committed to investing in Rhode Island’s healthcare economy by becoming active members of the local business community,” Elizabeth Nabel, MD, president of Brigham Health, said in a statement.

Partners and CNE also finalized their affiliation agreement with the Providence-based Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, which will serve as the primary academic research and teaching institution for the proposed deal.

Once the organizations’ application to Rhode Island state regulators is deemed complete, officials will have 90 days to issue a ruling.

Partners and CNE’s regulatory filing with the RIDOH comes on the heels of the Federal Trade Commission’s decision not to challenge the proposed merger.
